Lucia Stavros BiographyLucia Stavros has studied with leading orchestral harpists including Xiao-Lei Salovara of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Yolanda Kondonassis from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, and Elizabeth Hainen of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Curtis Institute of Music and Temple University. Lucia is currently studying at The New England Conservatory with Ann Hobson-Pilot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New England Conservatory of Music and Boston University. Stavros debuted as a solo performer with The Lakeland College Orchestra playing the Handel Harp Concerto in B-Flat at the age of 15. Since then, she has performed with the Wooster College Orchestra, Smith College Orchestra, Tufts College Orchestra, and The New England Conservatory Symphony and Sinfonietta Orchestras. She has worked with conductors JoAnn Falleta of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Guillermo Figueroa of the New Mexico Symphony, Shi-Yeon Sung (assistant conductor Boston Symphony Orchestra, Benjamin Zander and John Page of The Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Joseph Silverstein (formerly of The Boston Symphony Orchestra,) and Donald Palma of the NEC Faculty, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.) Chamber MusicThe Sirene Flute and Harp duo with Flutist Anne Gregory has already received international recognition in the classical music world. The Sirene duo recently won third place in the International Chamber Music Competition sponsored by The New England Chamber Music Society Competition. The Sirene duo will be performing in Boston and New York with their award-winning ensemble. VocalistStavros is also an accomplished vocalist and has studied voice for more than ten years with teachers from The Cleveland Opera and The New England Conservatory of Music. Voice remains a key part of her musicianship and adds a unique touch to her musical development and live performances. Some of her vocal engagements include a three-year membership in the Ohio All-State Choir and solo vocal performances at the New England Conservatory of Music. Stavros has a versatile range of vocal styling including classical, jazz, and blues . CollaborationsStavros also has experience performing with contemporary music groups. She was an inaugural member of The Lakewood Project Rock Orchestra, and performed with the orchestra at The Lyon & Healy Pop and Jazz Harpfest 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the harpfest, Lucia demonstrated the first electro-acoustic harp made by Lyon & Healy. Lucia has also performed several times at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with The Project Rock Orchestra, and The Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project. Stavros has also collaborated with composition faculty and students from The New England Conservatory and Boston University on new compositions for the harp. In October 2007, Stavros worked with celebrated musician Ran Blake in his production of Spiral Staircase . This Film Noir production showcased improvisatory interpretations of the film Spiral Staircase .
