Biography


 

 

Lucia Stavros debuted as a solo performer with The Lakeland College Orchestra in Ohio playing the Handel Harp Concerto in B-Flat at the age of 15. Since then, she has performed many successful concerts as a concerto player and solo musician. Recently Ms. Stavros was awarded first prize for her solo playing at The 2009 Greek Women's University Club National Music Competition in Chicago.

As a chamber musician, Ms. Stavros has performed in classical duos and trios as well as contemporary groups. Her chamber music group The Sirene Flute and Harp Duo won third place in the International Chamber Music Competition sponsored by The New England Chamber Music Society. Ms. Stavros was selected to perform at the Centennial Celebration for Elliot Carter for his chamber piece Luimen.

 

Ms. Stavros is also an accomplished orchestral musician and has worked with internationally renown conductors Hugh Wolff, Julian Kuetri, JoAnn Falleta, Guillermo Figueroa, Shi-Yeon Sung, Benjamin Zander, John Page, Joseph Silverstein and Don Palma. Ms. Stavros has studied with leading orchestral harpists including Xiao-Lei Salovara of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Yolanda Kondonassis from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Oberlin Conservatory, and Elizabeth Hainen of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Curtis Institute of Music and Temple University. Ms. Stavros is currently studying at The New England Conservatory with Ann Hobson-Pilot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New England Conservatory of Music and Boston University.

Ms. Stavros was an inaugural member of The Lakewood Project Rock Orchestra, and performed with the orchestra at The Lyon & Healy Pop and Jazz Harpfest 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah, most notably demonstrating the first electro-acoustic harp made by Lyon & Healy. Ms. Stavros was among the first to perform on this innovative harp.

Ms. Stavros also performed several times at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland with The Project Rock Orchestra, and The Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project. She has also collaborated with composition faculty and students from The New England Conservatory and Boston University on new compositions for the harp. Recently, Ms. Stavros worked with composers Kati Agocs and Ran Blake.
